Mom's Foot Cozies

My Mother-in-law also gets cold feet, and so, continuing with the Christmas theme, I knit her a little pair of Foot cozies! They look a little weird when off the feet, but once on, they fit quite nicely.

After selling the cabin in the Adirondacks, they bought a house on the Cape, and I'm told these go with her Cape-Robe. So yay!

Dad's "Slippers"

I already told you about the slippers I made my mom for Christmas, but now I get to tell you about the ones I tried to make my Dad! You can see that the cables in these are inverse from the ones on my Mom's. Well, they also fit much more like socks, which is good, because he's much more of a sock person anyway, and he likes short socks (but not that short). I pulled out the cast on and the ribbing at the top, and then worked in the opposite direction in a 1x1 ribbing for about 15 rows to make them a little taller and fit better. He loves them, too! I'd say so far this Christmas was a success!
PS: These pictures are all from before I changed the ribbing.

Mom's Slippers

We are now officially into Christmas gifts. Be forewarned. This will last until the summer, and you will understand why I had so much trouble posting this year.

My mom always has cold feet. Always. And so this year, I knit her a pair of slippers from my stash, going almost entirely Cold Sheep, and I LOVE them!

I was able to gift them on this Christmas, and thankfully, Mom loves them as much as I do!

I altered the pattern to be knit in the round, and so I worked 16 rows after the cable round before shortening it at the heel (on the medium size). I knit another full row (ie half knit half purl) afterwards. Then, I bound off. I was aiming for somewhere between a medium and a large size.

And guess what? She absolutely loved them! I added soles when I tried them on her feet at Christmas, and she couldn't get enough!

She said her ankles always get cold, so she'll keep the cuffs up.

I'm so glad to see her enjoying them!

Eliana's Baby Booties 2.0

Guess what I found in my desk drawer the other day?

Eliana's Baby Booties and Headband.

I doubted the booties would still fit the little munchkin, so I made her another pair! These ones have little bows instead of flowers, but they were too cute to pass up.

I opted not to make another headband, since I thought the old one would probably still fit her.

Below, you can see all three together, as they are currently in a package off to Texas!

Baby Slippers (& Headband)

Last week, I posted about the slippers I made for my lovely roommate when we first moved in.  Well, it's been almost two years since then, and right about now that lovely lady will be giving birth to her first baby, a little girl, and I can't wait to welcome her into the world.

Right now, Cindy lives quite far away, so I wanted to present her with something that would ship well, but also show love.  And then it hit me.

Of course.  Slippers!

After much deliberation, I decided on a baby-slipper crochet pattern that was vaguely similar to the one I had made for Momma two years before, and whipped it up so I could get it out in the mail.

But they were so tiny.  And small.  It needed something more.

After some more searching, I found a headband pattern that matched (enough).  After swapping out the flowers so they all matched, I packaged them up to ship off to the lovely new gal!

I hope she likes them!  And I hope they fit!  Everything always seems smaller than it should be when I make baby sizes...

Soft Slippers

Almost two year ago, now, when I moved in to my apartment in the heart of the Inner-City for the last bit of my formal education, my roommate and I began a great relationship.  We had known each other casually before moving in, and had a mutual friend who was to take the third bedroom, but she bailed, and we began a semester where we had far too much space, far too many police calls, and outrageous heat bills, and lots of fun.

That first week, when we were settling in and waiting for the real work to start, I was (as I am now) trying to use up my yarn stash.  I had recently completed all of my bridesmaids shawls, wasn't sure yet what to make for everyone else, and saw a cute slipper pattern on ravelry, so I whipped up a pair for Cindy.

Originally, I had intended to make one for myself as well, but life soon got in the way, and I worked furiously on other projects for the wedding, and never quite got back around to it.

The other day, I asked Cindy to snap me a few pictures of the slippers, which she gladly did, and I decided to post about them.  Don't worry, you'll understand the sudden relevance next week!

Captain Cardie and Booties

I'll get back to the other class I took at stitches at a later date (basically, when I have a finished object to show you).  In the mean time, I do want to catch up on my other projects.

In case you haven't noticed, I've been perpetually two months behind.  This can be a great thing when I spend weeks working on a big project, and in cases like birthdays and Christmas, when I can't post the projects until a later date.  In fact, this whole back up is basically because I made so much for Christmas last year that those gifts were still getting posted at the end of February.  Right now, though, I'm a little frustrated by it.  I might keep the posts at twice a week even after the Sophie's Universe CAL is finished to compensate.
Said Book

Anyway, back to what I was saying.

Over Christmas, I got some lovely knitting pattern books from the Mister's parents, and one of them happened to be a baby book.  At first, Randall and I looked at each other, wondering if this was a hint, but we were quickly assured otherwise, and life as usual resumed.

I ended up knitting a couple things from this book when my co-worker went on maternity leave.  Having just returned from STITCHES, where I learned to knit continental (as a result of knitting with one yarn in each hand for my tam), I chose to force myself to knit the whole sweater continental, and the booties as well.

I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, and I now feel reasonably comfortable with continental knitting, which is a plus for sure.

The pattern was extremely confusing and poorly written, though.  I had to have some of the Stitchers help me figure it out.

I also used the Debbie Bliss yarn from STITCHES, so no new yarn purchased!  Win!

Cow Slippers

Last March, I made some slippers for my now brother-in-law for his birthday.  I was having a lot of trouble deciding what to make for him, since he's such a practical guy and wouldn't use much, but when I found these, I knew they were perfect!  He's had a thing for cows ever since he was a kid, and though these were little girl sized, I just adjusted using my fiance's foot as a guide, and wha-la!  The most appreciated gift I've ever given.  He uses them daily!

(The cats chewed the eyes off!)
